Orchard Park, NY (Sports Network) - Marshawn Lynch rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown, and Rian Lindell booted four field goals as Buffalo edged Baltimore 19-14.
Rookie Trent Edwards finished 11-for-21 for 153 yards with an interception in his third-career start for the Bills (2-4), who have won two of their past three games. Lee Evans had five receptions for 98 yards.
"I thought he managed the game," Bills coach Dick Jauron said of Edwards. "He's got some options out there and he's got to get us in the right stuff and he did a nice job doing it. I would say he is more mature than a normal rookie. He handles things very well."
Ex-Bills star Willis McGahee returned to Buffalo and had 114 yards rushing and a touchdown on 19 carries for the Ravens (4-3), who lost for the first time in three contests.
Backup Kyle Boller, making his second straight start at quarterback in place of the injured Steve McNair, connected on 21-of-36 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown.
The Bills drew first blood late in the first quarter when Lindell capped a time-consuming 12-play, 70-yard drive by booting a 29-yard field goal to make it a 3-0 game.
Buffalo extended its advantage on the team's next possession when Lindell was true from 26 yards out with 12:44 left before intermission.
Moments later Quinn Sypniewski caught a short pass from Boller but coughed it up and Bills linebacker Angelo Crowell recovered at the Baltimore 23. Buffalo couldn't find the end zone again, however, and Lindell's kicking clinic continued when the former Washington State star connected on a 35-yarder to give the Bills a 9-0 cushion.
The Ravens finally broke through in their opening possession of the second half thanks to McGahee. The dynamic running back rushed for 72 yards in an 80- yard march, punctuated by a spectacular 46-yard TD run to make it a 9-7 game with 11:20 left in the quarter.
"Those kind of things happen on the football field," Jauron said of McGahee's run. "We know he is a real good back. It was unfortunate we missed a couple of tackles on the play and we actually only had 10 men on the field on the play."
The Bills responded by moving the ball downfield, but settled for a field goal again as Lindell split the uprights from 41 yards out to extend Buffalo's advantage to 12-7 with just over seven minutes to go in the third.
After Buffalo's defense forced a three-and-out, Edwards and the offense finally found the end zone to take over the game. Edwards set up the score by finding Evans for a 54-yard gain down to the Baltimore 17. Four plays later, Lynch punched it in from a yard out to give the Bills a 19-7 edge with 2:14 remaining in the third quarter.
Baltimore got back in the game thanks to its opportunistic defense. After Boller couldn't convert a fourth-and-three play from the Buffalo eight with just over nine minutes to go, the Bills were feeling good. But, Edwards misfired on a pass to Evans and Samari Rolle picked it off at the Buffalo 14.
The Ravens offense sputtered again, but this time Boller converted on fourth down by finding Derrick Mason over the middle for a 15-yard score and Baltimore was down by just five, 19-14, with 6:34 left in the game.
The Ravens did have a chance to win the game with under two minutes left. But, after Boller found Sypniewski for a nine-yard gain on first down, the team never gained another yard as Boller came up empty on three straight passes.
"Any win in this league is hard to get," Jauron said. "Any win is a huge win in this league. (Our guys) are mentally strong, they play hard all the time and they prepare well."
Game Notes
Ravens tight end Todd Heap and defensive back Chris McAlister were both inactive for the game. Heap is nursing a thigh injury while McAlister has a knee injury. Both players did not practice all week...Buffalo evened the all-time series at 2-2. The Bills previous victory in the series came in 1999 at M&T Bank Stadium...This was the first time the Ravens played in Buffalo. A Baltimore-based team has not won in Buffalo since the then-Baltimore Colts took a 17-12 decision there in 1980.
