New York, NY (Sports Network) - Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith was among the notable players selected during the second day of the 2007 NFL Draft.
Troy Smith was the last player chosen in the fifth round of this year's draft, as the Baltimore Ravens picked the Ohio State quarterback with the 174th overall selection.
"This guy has proven it at the highest caliber there is in college football," said Baltimore head coach Brian Billick about Troy Smith's abilities. "He has all the tools."
Despite a senior season in which he threw for 2,542 yards with 30 touchdowns and only six interceptions, Troy Smith's draft stock plummeted. He helped Ohio State reach the national championship game in 2006, but a 4-for-14 effort for only 35 yards against Florida started his downward spiral.
"I told him, 'You're going to walk in that locker room and you're going to be a nobody, because we have some Hall of Famers,'" said Ravens' general manager Ozzie Newsome. "He relished the opportunity to come into the situation with the players that we have."
Troy Smith is the first Heisman Trophy winner the Ravens have ever drafted.
The Oakland Raiders had the first pick on Sunday to start the fourth round of the process and selected Louisville running back Michael Bush. Another notable running back, Antonio Pittman of Ohio State, was chosen with the 107th overall pick by New Orleans.
A fifth-round selection of note was Michigan wide receiver Steve Breaston, who was chosen by Arizona with the 142nd overall pick.
Washington made two notable selections in the sixth round. With the 179th overall pick of the draft, the Redskins nabbed Pittsburgh linebacker H.B. Blades while later in the round, the 'Skins selected UTEP quarterback Jordan Palmer, who is brother of the Bengals' Carson Palmer.
The top-ranked kicker in the draft, Mason Crosby of Colorado, went to the Green Bay Packers at 193 overall in the sixth round.
The final pick at No. 255, referred to as "Mr. Irrelevant", was Alabama defensive back Ramzee Robinson, who was taken by the Detroit Lions.
A trio of quarterbacks, Florida's Chris Leak, Boise State's Jared Zabransky and Pittsburgh's Tyler Palko, whom were all expected to be drafted on the second day did not hear their names called.
